Target 2020 California

With more than 3 million students enrolled each year, California community colleges comprise the largest system of higher education in the country. But each year, only three out of 10 California community college students achieve their educational goals of transferring to a four year university or receive their qualifications for a two-year degree.

Without the proper training and development, students, communities and the state will continue to realize the economic consequences of an unprepared workforce. As the state’s largest source for workforce development and training, the current completion rate of California’s community college students puts everyone’s future at risk.

On April 15 – 17, Mobilize.org convened 100 Millennials from northern California community colleges to discuss the challenges they face in completing their education and collaborate on sustainable community solutions to address them.

During the summit, Target 2020 participants worked together to brainstorm, prioritize and propose top solutions to address barriers they face in completing their education. During the Democracy 2.0 Competition, participants selected the top solutions, proposed as projects that will receive financial investments and support from Mobilize.org and its partners to be implemented on campus, in communities or online.
